Millbrook quarterback Jaylen Carter threw two touchdown passes in the final six minutes Friday night as the Panthers stunned top-ranked Eastview 28-24 in front of a packed homecoming crowd at Memorial Stadium.
Trailing 24-14 entering the fourth quarter, Carter connected with wide receiver DeShawn Mills on a 43-yard strike to cut the deficit to three. Then, with 1:47 remaining, Carter found tight end Marcus Webb on a crossing route for a 12-yard score that sent the home sideline into pandemonium.
“That’s the kind of game people remember forever,” said Panthers head coach Bill Ramirez, now in his 18th season. “These kids refused to quit. That’s character you can’t coach.”
Carter finished 19-of-27 for 312 yards and three touchdowns against an Eastview defense that had allowed just 14 points per game this season. Running back Andre Washington added 94 yards on the ground.
The win improves Millbrook to 7-1 and puts the Panthers in the driver’s seat for a playoff berth. They’ll host Valley Central next Friday in a game that could clinch the district title.
Eastview (8-1) saw its 14-game regular-season winning streak snapped. Eagles coach Sandra Kim credited Millbrook’s defensive adjustments in the second half.
